Nevis Radio to Bring Local Broadcasting Back to Oban Area with Ofcom Approval

Nevis Radio is excited to announce that Ofcom has approved its application to extend its broadcasting service to the Oban area, filling the gap left since Oban FM ceased operations this summer. With Ofcom’s approval, Nevis Radio will now be able to serve the Oban community on the familiar 103.3FM frequency, providing continuity for local listeners.

“This is a major step for us at Nevis,” says Simon Abberley, Nevis Radio’s Business Development and Sustainability Manager. “Since July, we’ve been working on this project to ensure the Oban area has access to quality local radio. We’re eager to engage the community, cover local events, promote businesses and charities, and bring back familiar voices from Oban FM.”

Simon emphasised that while the project is exciting, it comes with significant costs. “We’re actively seeking funding and support to get this initiative up and running. We’re working with several partners to make this transition as smooth as possible,” He added, “We’ll also be holding engagement days soon so residents of the Oban area can meet us and ask any questions they may have.
While a specific launch date is yet to be confirmed, Nevis Radio is hopeful to begin broadcasting in Oban in early 2025. Abberley encourages local businesses, organisations, and individuals to get involved. “If you’re interested in supporting or sponsoring this venture, or would like to advertise with us, please reach out at sy@nevisradio.co.uk.”

We would also like to thank our current advertisers and sponsors for their continued support
